Back at it for December, 2012′s Art Basel, Rime and The Seventh Letter teamed up with Klughaus Gallery and Live From The Streets to bring an out of the box experience to Miami. Video inside: With rented UHaul trucks to be painted, mobile music performances, and a cache of alcohol, weed, and mushrooms on deck, Rime and crew were able to keep the party going through out the week. Long nights of painting, partying, disappearing people and vehicles, and outwitting cock blocking cops made for hard to forget adventure.

WE ARE THE TEENAGE WASTELAND

Self expression is what defines us as individuals. Often speaking for us when we are silent, it can let outsiders have a glimpse to our thoughts or lifestyle simply by the way we choose to dress for the day. Some are more daring then most. Many people protect their individuality to fit in by simply not trying to stand out. It is safer to fit “THE NORM”, then it is to face the scrutiny of society or even more influential, their peers.

It is not just in our formidable teenage years we choose to stay within any guidelines of our peers views of “NORMALCY.” Adults do the same whether it is the car they drive, what job they hold, if their child is reading by the age of two, or simply if they are wearing the latest and greatest by LULULEMON. Everyone is guilty of being quick to judge based on appearances alone. Everyone has pointed a finger or whispered negative views about another based solely on their appearance. It would be appalling to think that ones decision to “STAND OUT” fashionably, would speak of the content of their character.

Music has shaped what we see as fashion for the last 60 years. It was in rock ‘n’ roll music that was dubbed the work of the devil, and the “SOUND of YOUTH” Not just teens would take notice of what their new found idols were wearing. Music fashion started to translate into everyday life. As the years have gone on and music has changed, so has the fashion. Rockabilly has given way to the British invasion, which in turn gave way to the psychedelic hippie, to disco, punk, goth, new wave, hair metal, hip hop, grunge, and everything else in between. Music has given us trend after trend and it is easy to understand why. For so many music defines who were are and makes up every fiber of our soul. A song can evoke every emotion. It can take us back in time, make us cry, make us laugh, and make us shout. If we hate the song enough it can even drive us crazy! Rock Gods are revered as being untouchable and “COOL of the COOL.” It is no wonder why so many look up to them and want to emulate their look, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. What is wrong with that is how one who chooses to fit “THE NORM” would scrutinize another simply by being an individual.

Fashion is open for anyone. Whether it’s to shock and awe, to be part of a sub culture, a movement, to be an individual, or simply just to fit in, It’s there for anyone willing to take it and have fun with it.

This is dedicated to some of the few in music that have paved the way in bringing light and some “DARK” to our lives with sound and fashion.

GENEROUSLY HOSTED BY MINDGRUVE and housed within a historic bi-level warehouse, the exhibition will feature paintings, installations and cinematic art from over thirty San Diego-based artists. Spanning across a variety of mediums, Parachute Factory will feature a diverse body of work where navigation throughout the space is highly encouraged to get its full potential.
Along with the art, guests will also be able to enjoy live music, craft beer from Karl Strauss and bites from MIHO Gastrotruck. There will be a $5 cover at the door to help cover material and promotion costs, and the event will be open to all ages.
